Almost Home Dog Rescue of Ohio has always had a soft spot for senior collies, shelties, and collie/sheltie mixes. When other rescue organizations have passed over seniors at the shelters, we have brought them in and placed them in permanent foster homes.

Fostering can open up a whole new world for older adults.  By fostering older dogs, seniors can have the companionship of a pet without housebreaking, training, or cost.

To maintain the highest level of care possible, we provide solutions for specific needs like medications, food, and other items that might be needed. 

Senior to Senior (S2S) Program

Our Senior-to-Senior (S2S) Program was created to place these dogs in permanent foster homes matching them with senior citizens over the age of 55.  The Almost Home S2S program covers all expenses including medical examinations, medicines, and food.  In exchange, the foster provides a safe home for our dog, exercises him/her, performs basic brushing, and transports the dog to vet appointments.

While having a geographically dispersed network of foster homes, our S2S program is managed in Central Ohio. We gladly accept applicants from interested parties.

We know that everyone benefits from the companionship, caregiving, love, and joy of owning a pet. The Almost Home S2S program brings that and much more to senior people and senior dogs that are not usually adoptable.

Sponsor a Senior (SAS) Program

Some people want to help but now is not the right time to adopt or foster a senior dog. We understand and have a program designed for you, our Sponsor A Senior (SAS) Program.

Our Sponsor A Senior (SAS) Program is specifically designed for the needs of senior dogs. Elderly dogs have many of the same issues and problems we do as we age. Many of them are arthritic or may have an illness such as Cushing’s Disease. Some may have digestive issues and require special food.  Addressing these problems is not inexpensive.

The dogs pictured below are already in loving foster homes. We value sponsors as an integral part of fulfilling our mission to give these dogs a loving home and pain-free senior years.  Would you like to sign up to sponsor a senior pictured below with a monthly donation Almost Home will send you periodic updates on the dog you have chosen to sponsor.  Your generosity will help these senior dogs live their last years in comfort, loved, and pain-free.
