Meet Annie

Description:

Dear, sweet 12-year-old Annie was surrendered to an Ohio humane society. We hope she was loved, but she definitely experienced some neglect. She arrived matted, had long nails and was in dire need of a dental which was quickly done. Unfortunately, others did not see past her age, and she languished in the shelter for four months. By this time her stay there was impacting her health; she was losing weight and appeared to be shutting down.

Everything changed for Annie when Almost Home was called. A nearby AHDRO foster picked her up two days later. It was quickly apparent that she loved to be near people and loved attention, but she still did not eat well. A trip to the veterinarian revealed that although the humane society had done a routine dental, much more extensive dental was provided. Subsequently she had 22 teeth removed.

Two weeks later she went to her Senior2Senior home. She loves the two resident collies and they love her, but her favorites are the humans. She can be found lying near them and wants to follow them wherever they go, both indoors and out. As her mouth slowly healed, she was eating better, and we are hopeful her next vet visit will show she has gained the weight she had lost and that her eye inflammation is resolved.

After just a month, she is bright-eyed, wags her tail, comes to be petted and gives you “the look” if you stop too soon. She is a quiet sheltie but barks indignantly if she is left indoors when her humans go out to the porch. Annie has even learned to go down the few steps from the porch to the yard. Outdoors she lies in a shady spot and is content to watch her humans do their yard work. She is carried upstairs at night and back down in the morning so she can sleep with her family. Treats which were initially eschewed are impatiently waited for when the “big boys” get theirs. She’s definitely home and is probably a little bit spoiled, but that’s ok, everyone -- especially darling little shelties -- deserve to be a bit spoiled.
