Maggie’s Happy Ending

Daryl,

While I thought about sending you a message telling you that we needed to find another placement for her … I decided that I better not give you a heart attack! Maggie is just wonderful. She has forged a friendship with our Russian Blue cat who needs a lot of attention. Maggie is working on the relationship with the tabby.
The first time Maggie came into our home, she saw the cat and the cat went running–not a good choice on the cat’s part. Maggie has totally taken over my husband’s heart, and the kids are also equally enamored with her. She is truly one of the smartest dogs I have personally ever met. She runs in the backyard and enjoys the other neighbor’s dogs from a distance. She walks wonderfully on a leash thanks to the Gentle Leader. She learned to bring her rope toy to me if I howl like a beagle. I think that not only are we enjoying her, she is also enjoying us.

Definitely the most unusual thing she does is one that her foster parents Scott and Jane told us about. This is the ice cube trick. If I put an ice cube in her water bowl, she will pick it out, throw it across the floor, and chase it as if she were a cat chasing a mouse, and it was the mouse. I am beginning to wonder if my cat who I have always said was a dog trapped in a cat’s body, has now met her match in the fact that Maggie may be a cat trapped in a dog’s body!

Anyway, we are all so glad that we took the drive to Columbus. It seems like Maggie was always meant to be here. Last night for the first time, she brought me the blankie that came from her first home. She seems to know that there was someone who wanted her to have it, and that she is ready to share that with us now.
