Carlie
Adopted December 2009.
Carlie’s new life in NE Ohio began on December 31, 2009 on a blustery drive from Columbus to Rootstown in the back of an SUV stuffed full of her life’s belongings. The weather was nasty and she was nervous the entire 2 1/2 hr drive home. When she arrived at her new home she was eagerly greeted by her new doggie brother Bo, fondly called BoBo on his good days. Bo is a Cairn Terrier/Pug rescue dog who has been a part of the Bauman family for 3 years.
Bo fits easily under Carlie’s tummy and can often be found there picking at Carlie’s long flowing mane! He thinks it is amusing to grab at her hair and long legs. Carlie thinks differently. Carlie’s best defense is her long snout, which can easily flip Bo onto his back when she has had enough of his terrier rough housing! Carlie has also loves to bark at Sa-mi, our Arabian mare. Sa-mi just looks at Carlie, like she’s thinking, oh brother, another dog.
The first 2 months of Carlie’s life in Rootstown, right in the heart of the snow belt, consisted of wandering through paths of snow to and from the barn, trying to find a spot to, well you know what. Carlie came with 2 sets of doggie boots. Mind you, I know she was a city dog, but doggie boots? Really? We gave her the benefit of the doubt and tried them on her a couple of times, thinking she had sensitive feet. Guess again! That lasted 2 times– her feet were fine- no more doggie boots.
Carlie has adapted well to her new snowy home. As of today, 3/14/10, all the snow is gone and, unfortunately, she is now wandering in the muddy back yard. We all liked the snow better!
The biggest thrill is to have gotten Carlie to a relatively healthy point in her life and to see her personality continue to bloom. The previous owner said she didn’t bark. Well, I guess being under the influence of Bo, Carlie has found her voice and talks quite often and now voices her opinion. Carlie’s personality changed positively the day we had her groomed. She came home more beautiful than she was when we first adopted her, and Carlie appeared to even feel better. We love Carlie and are looking forward to the reunion in June!
Sincerely,
The Baumans
