Description:
What a big, handsome collie! Pal's “faves” would include toys, playing in the yard and being with his person/people. He loves being outside; playing ball, running zoomies, sniffing around and sometimes just lying down watching the world go by. He interacts well with his foster collie brother.
Another favorite thing for Pal would be to have another active dog in his forever home to help him acclimate to his forever family and their routines. He plays energetically outside, so a dog who is able to play similarly with him might be best. That's not to say Pal doesn't enjoy his people. He is mellow and relaxed in the house. He is affectionate, gentle, good-natured and sometimes just downright silly with people he knows. A little wary of strangers, he warms up quickly if allowed to approach them on his own terms.
Pal has been in a shelter and is understandably frightened by the crate, so we would recommend not crating him. He is very trustworthy alone in the house. When walking on a leash, he may try to bolt if he encounters new things, vehicles or strangers. A firm grip on the leash and lots of reassurance help him to manage these fears. We are confident the love of his forever family, ongoing socialization and time will instill self-confidence in Pal that will help him overcome any feelings of uncertainty.
Pal is a smart boy and is learning new behaviors every day. He knows some basic commands and is willing, attentive and eager to learn more. Pal so wants to please his people, and one way he does this is by being courageous and doing things that frighten him like going up and down stairs and coming in the doggy door all by himself!
Pal’s come a long way since coming to AHDRO, but his journey won’t be complete until he is with his forever people.
