Meet Tara

Description:

Please welcome Tara to AHDRO’s Senior-to-Senior Foster Program (S2S). Tara was adopted through AHDRO years ago. Tara’s owners both recently passed away and Tara was given back to AHDRO to be rehomed. At 14 years old, it was determined Tara was best suited for the S2S program where she will be fostered by her senior foster parents the rest of her life. Before Tara could get placed, though, she needed medical attention. Her teeth needed to be extracted and her coat shaved. Poor Tara had undergone many changes in situation in a short period of time. Tara needed a special home filled with tender loving care, and AHDRO found her one.

Tara’s senior foster parents have had a sheltie, but most recently they had large breeds. They had decided their next dog should be small so that they could care for her properly. Tara’s foster parents also wanted to help a dog because they had experience with caring for older dogs with needs. When they learned about Tara, they knew they had their next furry family member.

It has often been said that dogs live in the moment. Though in these first days with her new foster parents, Tara startled easily at times, she has simultaneously settled herself into her new home. In fact, she recently decided that when her foster dad isn’t in his chair, it’s hers. At first she thought it should be just hers, but after a few moments of discussion, he and she came up with the idea that they could timeshare. If he is up, it’s hers. If he comes back, it’s his. Tara didn’t make any sound for the first week. The other day while her foster parents were taking care of her one acre play yard, they heard a surprising sound: Tara barking out the window. Best yet, it wasn’t because she was afraid of the noises she was hearing. Miss Tara wanted to join them. Her awesome foster mom stopped her work, leashed Tara up and out they went. Tara was thoroughly delighted. Tara’s well and truly home.
