Howard
(Original name was Spike, but new family changed it to Howard.)
This sweet boy was one of 56 neglected dogs rescued from a remote property in West Virginia. Some of the dogs were chained inside a barn that was falling apart. They didn’t have clean water, light, or electricity. Howie’s fur was so matted that it had to be shaved. His eyes were infected, and he was terribly underweight. He also had advanced dental disease.
His family proudly states that Howard continues to blossom. He is a true testament to the unconditional love a dog has. Howard gets along with a colorful crew of several other family dogs and cats, and is a true gentleman. Howard is completely housebroken, crate trained … but does not need to be in a crate, as he gets into nothing when we are at work.
Everyone that meets Howard is quite smitten with him. He steals your heart! I am also happy to say that while Howard had to lose his matted fur due to the neglect, his skin and fur look amazing and the coat is quickly growing back. The side of the mouth where the teeth were removed have healed and he took his pain meds like a champ.
Howard does not look back, but faces every day with hope and assurance that love, compassion, and a safe warm home will be his future. I can’t begin to tell you what an honor and privilege it is to have this magnificent collie in their family.
