An Update on Trixie

Trixie is doing fantastic. The best girl ever and SMART! She has had no ‘oops’ accidents in the house since the end of October and is on a regular potty schedule. We took her to Dr. Pimm at Apple Hill Animal Hospital for a benchmark check up … she was very impressed with Trixie’s flexibility for a 4 year old. Dr. Pimm was so impressed with Trixie’s personality and how gorgeous her coat is.

We are working on basic obedience now … she has the sit/stay and is working on the down. I’m not sure if she’ll have the ‘finish’ ready before I enroll her in January classes at Cleveland All Breed Training Club. Trixie has also been enjoying 2x daily hikes on the property. She a quick learner (maybe 2 tries and she has it). She loves to try new things but we have to hold her back so she won’t hurt herself.

Dr. Pimm has us working on a training regimen to get her in top shape to protect those ‘knees’ of hers, she seems to have springs in her butt. Last week she taught herself how to balance along the fallen logs on the property and now has taken to walking along the edge of the couch to go around us instead of jumping down and back up to a better spot. You would never know she was ever an outside dog! She has taken to being a very pampered inside dog, standing patiently in the ‘mud room’ as I towel dry off her coat and feet.

Interestingly, with the promotion of the upcoming Westminster show I saw almost a twin of her on AOL. Clicking further, I found that the coloring, shape and personality traits of Trixie is that of a pyrenean shepherd more that that of an Aussie or even collie. Whatever her family background, we love her to pieces. After successful completion of basic obedience and continued socialization we’ll be working with the Delta Society to see if Trixie would enjoy being a therapy dog.

We can’t thank you enough for saving this very special girl. She loves people and trying new things. I think she is relieved she is the only dog in the house so now she can just relax and not be the pack leader. I have been watching your website and am so happy you have been able to find so many forever homes for the other collies we couldn’t bring home with us. I’ll keep you posted as Trixie progresses with her training. Hope you and your family enjoy the Holidays!
