Description:

Looking at Scout, you would never imagine what this lad has been through. To know about Scout’s prior life is to realize just how inspiring he is. Scout was rescued from life on a chain on an abysmal property by a good Samaritan who noticed him and enlisted the aid of friend to help her get him released by the owner into her care. Scout was carried out of that situation in her friend’s loving arms. Probably the only loving touch he’d ever felt. At the vet, it was discovered he had two, two flea collars deeply embedded into his neck. After removal, he had to remain at the vet for weeks while he healed, and then Scout began the long journey from where he was to Ohio. Since his rescue, Scout has learned so much of what life is really about and what it is to be loved. Look at his photos again with new appreciation for all he’s been through and let’s look at where he is now.

Scout is a bit of an imp. At his foster mom’s, he decided that the dog beds were not where they needed to be. Interior designer Scout moved the living room dog bed to the bedroom and vice versa. Scout thinks outside the box, too. Literally. Scout likes to empty the toy box of toys and then picks the box up to shake and play. Scout, like many dogs who never had toys when young, doesn’t really appreciate them yet, but he is discovering play.

Scout likes to cuddle and follow his person around. He has quickly learned the joys of family. However, he is a bit shy at first when meeting new people. After he warms up to you, though, he is loving and friendly. On walks, he has passed children and hasn’t barked or jumped. When meeting other dogs at the park, he is friendly and tries to initiate play.

Scout’s foster is gently working on some areas with him, and his forever person or family should be as patient knowing his past trauma. New sounds cause anxiety, but once he’s learned them, he seems to do okay. When nervous, he will pace inside the house. Outside, he will bolt. So when walking him on a leash, his person needs to stay attentive at all times with a firm hand on the leash. Scout will also need a physically fenced-in yard. Scout has learned “sit” and is learning “stay” and “come.” His foster hasn’t left him alone for more than 10 minutes, but he seemed to be fine. Scout doesn’t like being confined to a crate. He does well on car rides, but Scout balks at getting into the car. His foster believes this will change as he grows accustomed to car rides.

Isn’t Scout inspiring? To have gone through so much deprivation and pain and be loving and a real “cuddle bug.” Scout deserves a special person or family to be his forever special person or family. He needs someone who will be kind, patient and understanding. Someone, or a family, who will love him every day of his life.
