Description:
Dahlia is an elegant, petite girl with striking markings. She is also both smart and sweet. However, she was not socialized when she was younger, was kenneled and had few opportunities to make decisions, so life out in the world was scary. Time, care and sensitivity to her needs are making a difference. At first every outside noise scared her, but now she loves to go for walks in her rural setting. Indoors her safe place is the sofa, and she loves to cuddle with her people. Dahlia is affectionate, good-natured and loving.
She still startles with loud noises and quick movements, so a calm, quiet household would be the ideal place for her. She would do well with a mellow, sociable canine companion to help her settle into the routine of her forever home. We would love if her forever family has had experience with other poorly socialized dogs. We are excited about her progress, but she will still need the gifts of patience, insight, and a willingness to work with her to help her become the confident girl we think she can be.
She has learned many skills and has gotten used to being part of a family: she is working on “wait” and “come.” She is housetrained (uses a pet door), and she walks well on a leash, does well in the car and does not need a crate. Dahlia enjoys being brushed. She has starting to bloom. It will still be some time before she is comfortable with the world around her, but she is ready to finish that journey in her forever home.
