Description:
Our beautiful Roxy came to us from a Missouri seizure of 97 dogs. After the Humane Society of Missouri performed the initial vetting of the dogs many were adopted into private homes, but Roxy had so much anxiety and residual fears that she was not among those adopted. HSMO reached out to Almost Home Dog Rescue and we could not say no to that beautiful face. So, Roxy is now safe in a foster home learning how to live life and be part of a family. She has made a lot of progress in her foster home, but we believe it will take time, patience and consistency to help her bloom into the dog that is buried under her puppy mill experience.
Roxy is now house broken and she enjoys the other dogs in her foster home—showing her true spirit when she is with them outside. She still experiences a lot of anxiety when inside —as she is frightened easily by household noises—so her kennel is her “safe spot”. Due to this anxiety, Roxy is a flight risk and will require a securely fenced in yard. Although we wish that love alone would help this dear collie shed her fears, we know—from working with other dogs like Roxy—that she will need a savvy dog owner and preferably one who has had experience with puppy mill dogs. She would do best in a home with another dog her size and without children. We know that adopting Roxy will require a special commitment of time, energy, and patience to help this sweet girl develop into a confident and relaxed member of a forever family. The special bond that will form between Roxy and her adoptive family during this necessary work with her will make it all worth it.
Please only inquire about Roxy if you meet all the criteria her foster family and AHDRO's Adoption Team deem necessary for a successful adoption.
