Travis
Almost Home is proud to be caring for one of our Collies that was adopted by Matt Cooper as he serves in Afghanistan. Matt adopted Travis and the bond between them is very strong. When Matt got the chance to serve our country and work along side the Army in a war zone, he gladly stepped up….and then wondered what to do with his beautiful boy.
The foster that had taken care of Travis before he was adopted stepped up and volunteered to do her part by taking in Travis and caring for him until Matt could come home.
Everyone was happy for this solution that allows someone to serve their country and still keep the dog they had grown to love.
We recently received this letter from Matt.
Those are some good pictures! Travis looks great, slim and with a wonderful coat. I don’t mind if you write about Travis and me.
I work for the Defense Finance and Accounting Service in Columbus. I volunteered to go overseas for a year working for DFAS alongside the Army. I’m part of a group working at the Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan. In spite of the hardships, it feels good to help out a little here.
It’s hard to be away for a year and I certainly miss my pet collie dog, Travis. I got him through Almost Home Collie Rescue and I have entrusted him to the care of a nice lady I met through Almost Home, so I don’t worry about him. I know he is in good hands. Not only are collies extraordinarily beautiful, but they make great pets.
After a long year away, I’ll certainly have a greater appreciation for Columbus, the comforts of home and the companionship of my magnificent collie.
Thank YOU, Matt for serving our country. We will keep Travis for as long as you are away. He is in good hands but will be very glad when you return safe and sound!
