Description:
Pete is a stunning double merle rough collie with blue eyes that just happens to be deaf. Being deaf only means he can't hear, not that he can't understand. Deaf dogs "hear" by watching body language and facial expressions. He is very smart and observant and will greatly benefit by finding a special person who will have the patience and love to teach him how to communicate using sign language.
Pete was surrendered to a shelter when his guardian became ill. Understandably, he was feeling overwhelmed and unsure of what was happening, so he had some anxiety at first. However, he was feeling more comfortable after only a week in his foster home.
Pete needs to gain some weight and is quickly learning that food and grooming will bring him back to the very handsome boy that he is. He is very friendly with dogs, cats and even chickens. He has figured out his new environment and is thriving with a consistent routine. He is currently dependent on his humans and always wants to be near them and have them in his sight, but he is quickly learning the joys of exploring a fenced yard and playing with the resident collies in his foster home. Pete can be crated without much protest (he does understand the sign for "quiet"), and he is working on being completely housebroken (does some marking). With trust, tolerance, communication, love and patience, a special bond with his human is what Pete is hoping to find.
