Description:
My name is Mary and I'm what they call a smooth collie. I'm a smooth operator and a very sweet lady according to everyone who meets me. I'm 8-9 yrs. old and I have to admit I lost my birth certificate on my last move. I will have you mesmerized with my one blue and one brown eye...as it drives the boys wild. I have been spayed if you were wondering. I have to explain something to you. I came from a terrible living situation for a good part of my life through no fault of my own. I have looked at it this way who wants a puppy with all of that fuss and muss when you can have a mature woman..I mean dog like me? I like being outside watching birds, and I don't know what all of the flap is about them. I like neighbor's dogs, people watching, and squirrels. They were put on earth so dogs like me could chase them. I do need a fenced yard..not the penitentiary style but a 4 ft. high would suffice. I feel good about myself when I'm outside and I do walk good on a leash if I do say so myself. I like those sniff type walks when every scent around me captures my senses, So don't rush me...It's my second nature.
I'm kind of timid initially. I don't like loud noises so don't slip a pair of headphones on me while I'm taking a nap. The Grand Central Station atmosphere doesn't work for me..if you get my drift. A quiet home is more appealing. I don't have separation anxiety so you can do what you have to do. I have been crate trained in the beginning but no need now. I don't chew on things except for play toys which I'm learning all about. I don't jump on furniture, so we don't have to fight for the remote. The only kind of barking I do is of the protective variety or thunder..but not a chronic barker. I'm not sure about a vacuum cleaner but I can tell you right now I don't do vacuuming or any other housework. I do have a higher pitched bark and what I have been told is sometimes I sound like a cow or whale sound. What the heck is that? but if you're referring to my weight in any way we will have a problem. By the way I do weigh about 60 lbs.dripping wet. I do like my back and neck massaged (and who doesn't) but I guess bringing in a masseuse isn't on the agenda.
I do like other dogs but not confrontational ones that are in my face. As of now male or female doesn't seem to be an issue but of course on a dog to dog basis. A formal intro would be required and beneficial. Don't get me started on cats..and that litterbox thing or as I call it a miniature beach. They might have nine lives but I'd like to cut into that number! No to cats but yes to chasing squirrels! I do good with adults but initially standoffish until I get to know you and then I'm great. I like older children but younger ones can be an issue. If pulling my ears are a mission then this will be mission impossible. At this stage I do get car sick of the salivating variety. Now if it was over a thick juicy steak that would be a different story. This could work itself out but only time will tell. It's probably just an anxiety thing. So, to summarize my situation my life started out rough and continued that way but now I'm being the kind of dog I always wanted to be. You could say I'm just a late bloomer. Your patience and love will go a long way to having me be the best dog you could imagine.
Thanks for checking in on me. Love, Mary
**Note: Mary needs to have a physically fenced yard.
