Description:
If Opie could talk we think he’d be saying, “Wow, I didn’t know life could be like this.” His first experience with living in a home has been both a blessing and a challenge. Every sound, appliance and routine is brand new and startling to this sensitive guy, but he is rapidly getting accustomed to home life. He is a gentle, Velcro dog and loves cuddling even more than playing. Running and jumping outside is a good outlet for his young dog energy, so he really needs a fenced-in yard. He does not have any other dogs or cats in his foster home, but when he has met a few dogs on walks he has been good-natured and friendly with them.
Opie loves, loves people and wants to please, and this has helped him deal with all of the changes in his life. A smart boy, Opie has already mastered down, stay, come and up with hand gestures. Opie does not indicate when he needs to go out but has not had any accidents in the house given frequent opportunities to go outside. He is crate trained but will whine a little when the family leaves the house. However, at night he is quiet in a crate in the foster’s bedroom. He will travel a few steps to go outside, but at this point he will not attempt a flight of stairs in spite of some delicious enticements.
His forever family will need to be a little patient with him as he learns that all of their sounds, movements and appliances are “ok,” but we believe he will adjust to his new home quickly as he did in his foster home. He would love to be with a family where someone is home a lot, but we think he will adjust if that’s not possible. He shows his appreciation for being in a loving home each day, is well mannered and a delight, with a true collie heart.
