Description:
Gizmo came to Almost Home as an owner-surrender. At first this sweet boy was frightened and reserved. He had never lived in a house, walked on asphalt, or walked through a doorway. However, after only a couple of weeks with his foster family, he has truly blossomed. He is a smart boy who wants to learn and please his humans. He knows basic commands and is working on stay. Taking cues from his foster siblings, he has faced the challenge of crossing the threshold and being indoors. Most importantly, he’s learned to be a family pet and a member of the pack.
Gizmo enjoys meeting people and animals. He is a bit shy at first but warms up quickly to new people. He enjoys outings because he meets new people and gets attention. Being scratched behind his ears melts him. He has done very well with children of all ages. He has met toddlers, teenagers, and everyone in between. Gizmo walks well on a leash and loves taking walks on trails. When encounters another dog, he is friendly and appropriate.
Gizmo easily attaches to his humans once he picks his person. According to his foster mom, his foster dad is his human pick. He enjoys playing with and lounging near his human pick, and given the choice of playing outside or cuddling with his human, Gizmo chooses to cuddle. He relishes attention and affection and is super sweet and generous with kisses. He freely seeks attention from both foster parents and reciprocates with a kiss or tail wag. Gizmo is quite mellow and calm for a young dog, but every now and then he’ll have bursts of energy and playfulness. Gizmo will need a fully fenced yard and another young active dog to play with in his forever home.
Gizmo also does very well with his male foster siblings - a 2-year-old border collie/sheltie mix (his best buddy dog) and a 1-year old cat. He’s interested in all the male and female foster siblings, but can at times be pushy. Gizmo enjoys running around in the fenced-in backyard, and through the pack he’s learning how to play. He doesn’t quite know what to do with a ball, but he’s more than happy to toss a stuffy in the air and lunge at it. With time, he may learn more tricks. He enjoys playing defense when running with his foster siblings who chase a soccer ball. Gizmo is just happy to run alongside them or block their path as they run for the ball.
Gizmo has very good house-manners. He is curious about what is going on but after a few minutes he becomes mellow and enjoys just lying near his people or with his foster siblings. He will find a comfy spot on the floor or in a dog bed. He’s adjusted very well to his fosters’ schedule and the routine of the house. He’s fond of his crate and sleeps in it at night and while his foster parents are at work. He has a good appetite and is house-trained.
“In a nutshell, Gizmo is the sweetest dog I’ve ever met,” exclaims his foster mom.
