Description:
Marshmallow is a handsome, deaf sheltie who is 10 years young. He is a happy fellow and loves everyone he meets, greeting them with a wagging tail. At home he is definitely a velcro dog, wanting to be wherever his people are, lying nearby or better yet on the sofa being petted—his favorite spots being under his chin, on his belly, and of course, butt scratches. He gets along well with his doggie sibling and nudges the fosters with his nose to make sure he gets his share of any attention being meted out. He has a crate which is his safe place and he goes there if he is unsure of what is going on. So, he is happy to relax there when the family is away from home.
He is house trained, loves to go for walks, walks nicely on a leash and seems to expect a nice walk after each meal. He is a low key guy, rarely barking but communicates with little whines and snorts. Since Marshmallow is deaf, he needs hand signals for commands and seems to understand “stay” but we hope his adopter will spend time with Marshmallow teaching him other important commands with their hands. It would be ideal if his adopter has had experience with deaf dogs or is willing to participate in training. He would probably do best in a calm, stress free home and would enjoy another low key dog as a companion. We think that with the necessary training, he might be a good candidate for a nursing home therapy dog since he is so outgoing. We are looking forward to seeing Marshmallow in his forever home.
