In Memory of King Quentin
I had recently lost by beloved Collie mix Cain and my heart was broken. I heard the story of Quentin on the AHDRO website and knew that we had to be together. Quentin was tied to a shed for fourteen years with little food or water and was rescued by AHDRO.
I made the trek from Central Indiana to Ohio to pick up my new baby in September of 2008. I will never forget the first time I saw him. Despite his age, Quentin always had an air of dignity and his eyes showed an inner happiness. With all he had been through, Quentin still had a spark and a forgiving nature.
We made the four hour drive home and as I lifted him out of the car he reminded me of a baby doe, thin body, alert eyes and a look of wonderment. Seeing his kind expression, I knew I was in love.
Our love lasted almost two years. He was always at my side and his eyes followed me constantly even when he was resting. I tired to make up for the first part of his life and make sure he wanted for nothing. He didn't understand toys but loved his memory foam mattress. He would perch on his bed so proudly and so we nicknamed him King Quentin. Other names were Baby Bunny Face, Snuggle Bunny, and Quinny.
Recently his aches and pains finally took his toll on his tired body but his spirit drove him on. I would see him walk with that brave smile on his face, even though he was in pain. He would do anything to please his mommy and he so desperately wanted to continue his life with me.
We decided together that there would be no more pain. The night before his last day, Quentin and I had a dream. We were flying on a beautiful day, he was in my arms and were both having so much fun. Then, we were flying too high and we were flying faster and faster. I was in a panic, holding on to him for dear life. What if I dropped my Quentin? I woke up in a panic and saw him sleeping peacefully next to me. I knew our time together here would end and that he was telling me to let him go.
Quentin, you have touched my heart like no other. I will love you forever, my beautiful boy.
