If there was ever an angel on Earth, It’s Penny! Words to describe her? “Sweet.” “Adorable.” “Affectionate.” “Smart.” The last thing you would say is “Blind!” Despite her disability, Penny goes with the flow and is highly adaptable to new surroundings. If you are looking for a loving, gentle, mellow companion, Penny’s your girl!
Before she came into our rescue, Penny was brought to a shelter in Kentucky as a stray. It’s hard to comprehend how this sweet little girl ended up on her own. Despite whatever hardships she faced, she has managed to forge ahead with a resilient spirit.
Penny loves to go for walks in the neighborhood, where her nose is to the ground all the way. When you say “Go for a Walk” or click the leash, she barks and wags her little tail with joy! She enjoys meeting new people along the way and responds to their voices. (They are so surprised to find out she is blind, she is such a natural on a leash.) She is very well behaved riding in the car.
Penny is great with her foster mom’s collie and is curious about the cats in her household, though is in no way aggressive. She enjoys meeting other dogs on walks. (A boisterous dog would probably not be the best fit for Penny due to her age and disability.) Penny is housetrained, and has never had an accident. (When crated, she has on occasion barked when her foster mom was away. Most likely, she would not need the crate once she knew the lay of the land in the house.)
Penny cannot do flights of steps, so a predominantly one-level dwelling is required. She can do a couple of steps to go outside. She likes to be near her people. Shortly after arriving at her foster home, Penny managed to find the couch and got up on it all by herself! Her favorite room to explore is the kitchen, where her pastime is hunting for fallen scraps.
All in all, Penny is an absolute delight. Being a senior girl, she has a touch of arthritis and takes a pain supplement for that, and will soon be undergoing dental surgery. She also has a slight heart murmur. Due to her special needs, Penny qualifies for AHDRO’s Senior to Senior program. You can find out more about our Senior to Senior program on the home page under the “Foster the Love” tab.
Penny is looking for the perfect forever home, where this precious girl can live out her days happily laying by your feet, dreaming of chasing squirrels and taking long walks in the woods.
