Two years ago Gabe came over just to “meet” us. I was sure he was too old. (almost 9) I had always wanted a Collie and had been looking for a 2nd dog for several months. I finally decided to wait for “a sign” to tell me when I had found the right dog. That day I got the sign. As he was leaving, he came to each of us and seemed to be asking to stay with us. Jackie witnessed this as well. We were all moved by Gabe actions and we decided to have him join our family.
Gabe had been through a lot in his life and it took him awhile to settle in. He had a “Beagle boss” who showed him the ropes. He showed us his goofy side, trying to howl with the Beagle, sleeping on his back and rough housing with my husband. Gradually he became friends with the family and with many of our neighbors.
Gabe struggled with a variety of health issues, but always managed to keep going. Around Thanksgiving his health slowly began to fail, but he got through Christmas and could go no further. He is missed very much by me, his “Mom”, all of our family and his dog buddy, Maggie. We will never forget our wonderful Gabe!
