Callie wasn’t our first collie, though she was our first through Almost Home. When we adopted her in 2005, we had no idea of the important part she would play in the work we did while we were with the rescue. She had the sweetest disposition and was always happy. She was very laid back, and we even took her with us on a trip to see Patti’s father before he died at the care center where he was staying. Callie was a hit with everyone! Soon we decided to try fostering. It was new to us and to Callie also! But she was a trooper, and made it easy to bring in a new dog. Callie would welcome them, then proceed to put the males in their place and let them know she was the boss! When we began doing home visits, we sometimes would take Callie along on those who were not familiar with collies. She always won everyone over because she was so sweet and good natured.
When we fostered our Hogan, then later adopted him, Callie also would keep him in his place. Even in her last days when she wasn’t doing so well, she would still try to keep him in line if he tried to eat her food!
But in the end, we had to make that most difficult decision of all when her quality of life was gone. She will always be in our hearts and our memories of her will be with us forever.
